Need help with C. skinnerii with long rhizome
Question Need help with C. skinnerii with long rhizome

I purchased a C. skinnerii bare-root last year at an orchid show. It has a long rhizome but only half the rhizome has pseudobulbs. The rear part of the rhizome has no growths on it but the front end has three growths and and put out two new ones since I purchased it.

My question is, can I cut off the rear end of the rhizome and just leave the part that seems to be activly growing? It's in a six inch pot to accomodate the length, but I would like to cut off the rear end and put it in a smaller pot. The new growth is pushing up against the edge of the pot. The plant is well anchored with healthy roots so I'm not sure if the rear end is serving a purpose.

Any thoughts?
