okay, so is there really a catt by the name of cattleya 'the king' ? the one from asiatica has variegated leaves. but the name doesnt sound legit. does anyone know of a name for this one? Cattleya 'The King' from Asiatica Nursery

I've never heard of it, but that doesn't mean much.

The leaves look cool, but for 90 bucks you'd think they'd post a pictures of a healthier specimen and blooms.

i wasnt planning on buying it for that much!! thats outragious. but i was just curious. plus, they are going out of business and are having a last time sale so if it was cheaer id buy it maybe. but wasnt sure if it was a real name

I'd stick with your gut instinct. The plant is way, way overpriced even if it is legit. The pseudobulbs look severely dehydrated so it probably has no roots. Refunds are unlikely if the company is going out of business. Proceed with caution.

There is a cattleya hybrid C. The King, no quotation marks. It was previously known as an Slc. It is an old cross, 1931, of C. His Majesty x C. Joseph Charlesworth. [info from RHS]

There is also an awarded cattleya species, Cattleya trianaei 'The King'.

I found no reference to variegated leaves.

thanks alot!! i appreciate that i really do. im going to go down to their gh tomorrow. they dont sell online anymore, and are only open on fridays and saturdays.

To me it looks like a back bulb division. And the rhizome is buried which is another bad practice. As June said quite possibly no roots either.
