Default Laeliocattleya Cypheri (L. purpurata X C. forbesii aurea)

Several months ago, I obtained this primary hybrid from Alvim Seidel, Orquidario Catarinense, Santa Catarina, Brasil. Lc Cypheri was registered in 1897 by J. Cypher & Sons, Great Britain.

I look forward to multiple leads flowering simultaneously in future years. Both of the parent species, Laelia purpurata and Cattleya forbesii aurea are prolific growers in my conditions!

Did this plant retain any fragrance from the purpurata?

That's beautiful. It looks like it got the nice shape of C. forbesii and (thankfully) the color of L. purpurata. And it should prove highly adaptable to different temperature ranges with those two parents. I too am interested in whether or not it's got any fragrance. Congratulations. That's probably one of the nicest hybrids I've seen in a long time--almost nice enough to make me want to try a cattleya hybrid! I'd better stop looking at your pictures. :-)

I like the tubular shape of the lip. The plant looks very nice.

What a great primary hybrid! I will have to keep my eyes peeled for one of those.

Thank y'all for the compliments!

My "designated sniffer" reports that the night time fragrance is similar to honeysuckle.

I will report in about another 12 hrs with a mid-day fragrance evaluation.

Stitz,
Whatever you do, don't do a search on the RHS site on this one, it is very hard to follow, what I came up with is that the primary hybrid is called ' Brasicattleya ' now if it was the other way round...no not enough room here to give all the other one's.....

The International Orchid Register | Royal Horticultural Society

Warren, Thank you for your interest and response.

I now see your point. I reject the Brasicattleya and the Hadrocattleya names presented in the RHS name game. I also noticed that OrchidWiz lists Cattleya and Sophrocattleya.

I will continue to call mine as it was sold to me, Laeliocattleya!

Interestingly, the RHS indicates that this is a natural hybrid. These plants occur in the same locale. Do these species share common pollinators?
