Default beginner question...inducing fall bloomers to spike sooner?

each year i pray that my fall blooming laelias and catts dont bud blast

i have to keep them on the windowsill this time of year because I dont want the nights around 40 degrees to stop the bud from forming

anyone ever try to induce these plants to spike sooner by placing them in the fridge(around 50 degrees) at night at the end of the summer???? they didnt seem to start to spike until after a few cool nights here in Baltimore Md.

I did this many years ago with a very stubborn Phal. and it worked! Also have set them outside at night when it wasn't too cold and then brought them back inside again in the morning.

I may be wrong since I don't have any catts, but don't they respond to day length rather than temperature?

if I brought them in earlier than sunset, they might respond to that. I just want to try to get them to spike a little earlier. The buds aren't form enough before it gets a little too cold
