Default Cattleya mossiae var. Reineckiana

I was given this clone as a present by an old orchid friend. The plant belonged to his late father who already grew it in the 50's. After three times flowering in my hands I definitely can say that the flowers have somewhat twisted segments and don't open well, but the lip balances it all! What a beautiful lip this flower has!

Mauro, mossiaes with good shape are rather scarce, normaly semi albas are the ones with better shape but the advantage of mossiaes regarding the rest of the venezuelan cattleyas is the curly or ripple colorfull lip and if you let it grow then is the number of flower for each stalk. In any case yours is really nice.

Very beautiful lip!
Is it not because the flowers are 'squashed' together that they dont 'fully' open?

Not really, Nenella. Previous flowerings presented the same problem even with well separate flowers

Those are beautiful, Mauro. And what a long-lived plant! It's great that this particular plant has such a nice history that you can document. I sometimes wonder, as far as the few really large plants that I have are concerned, how many hands (and years) they passed through before they got to me. I think that knowing something of their history makes you cherish them that much more.

Steve
