Well, you can't do much about the truthfulness of the registrants. But we have to assume that certain names are correct sometimes, unless there is good reason to believe that they're wrong. Following that path would lead us to theoretically question the provenance of any hybrid unless you made it yourself.

To check the parantage of a hybrid, check the RHS orchid register. You can search by grex or by parentage. Royal Horticultural Society - Plants: Registration of Orchids I was recently looking up C. Summer (1948). It goes waaayyy back and includes these oldies:

Falco (1915)
Nutley (1929)
Dupreana (1906)
Hardayana (1896)
Harold (1893)

[edit] Oh, RHS only shows hybrid registrations, but Orchidwiz (forum sponsor) can't be beat for cultivar and awards info.

I didn't have much luck with the RHS...I just did a search on C. Summer, but only found it used in crosses going back to about 2000, not the original cross. I entered the search "C. Summer". Is there something I'm missing? Thanks for the heads-up on OrchidWiz...I saw it before, but forgot the name.

Thanks.
