Ya I bet it's pretty rare to find a tipo that isn't a polyploid. No "regulars" around.

You might email chadwick. I guarentee they own a lot of them. You may be able to get a division.

You can send an email to Steven Christoffersen via any of his Ebay listings. He has top-shelf cattleya species (but be forewarned: you will be paying top-shelf prices for these also), and has had crosses of Cattleya mossiae listed in the past. I have several of his plants, and they were well worth the months of ramen noodles that I had to eat in exchange for blowing my budget on cattleyas.

Also try Harry Akagi at H&R Nurseries (hrnurseries.com). I didn't see any mossiaes on his Fall 2023 list, but he's carried this species in the past and he might have a few still available. Again, high quality plants from H&R (and they're a little more budget friendly and Honda-like in price compared to Steven's McLarens).

Good luck with your search.

Leafmite - check eBay for those Phalaenopsis species.

I tried Chadwick.
I emailed an image, asked if they had something similar and when they might resume their eBay listings.
The reply was that he loved the old style mossiae, and the eBay listings would resume when it was warmer.
That is nearly a quote.
Deliberately vague isn't what I'm looking for.
I will keep an eye on the eBay listings because they have great stock.

I do watch the Christofferson Collection on eBay.
I haven't seen a tipo mossiae since I've been checking their auctions out, maybe this Spring.🤞

Another potential source is Troy Meyers. He specializes in flasking services for (mainly) species. He also periodically has seedlings available. I think he runs the business by himself, but he's usually pretty good at responding to emails. His email is listed on his website: Flasking Home Page. It couldn't hurt to ask him if he has anything available.

Rafael Romero is another good source for Venzuelan cattleya species. I didn't see any mossiaes on his list the last time I looked (a couple of weeks ago), but he has carried this species in the past, and he has good quality plants. In fact, my favorite tipo C. mossiae came from him over a decade ago. You can email him through his website: Plantio La Orquidea - Unusual orchid species and hybrids..

Finally, there's Ben Oliveros at Orchid Eros (HOME | orchid-eros) in Hawaii. He always has a number of excellent cattleya species seedlings for sale. Again, I just checked his list and didn't see mossiae. But you could always send him an email. He's a friendly guy and (in my experience) easy to work with.

Cattleya mossiae is by far my favorite cattleya species. So I understand your frustration, and am equally bewildered why such an outstanding species (regardless of genus) is so difficult to find these days. I dread the idea of attempting to raise orchids from flask. But at this point, I'm tempted to just cross a few of my mossiaes this spring and send the pods to Troy for flasking.

If memory serves, there is currently a mossiae cross on Troy Meyers (I reserved it awhile back) from our very own Bayard. Looks like beautiful tipo parentage!

I agree that it is bewildering how some classic orchids can be so difficult to find. I think many breeders are trying to correct this circumstance as I've seen many "classic" species/hybrids being bred again with modern parents. In some cases, specific crosses (with specific clonal parents) are even being made, which is super cool.
