Default Brassavola nodosa minnie mouse

Hi all,

I would like to ask Brassavola nodosa minnie mouse is a breed cultivar or is a variety from the wild?

I Google online some ppl put apostrophe 'minnie mouse' and some just put minnie mouse. With apostrophe is a breed cultivar right?

Pls advice.

Thank you.

'Minnie Mouse' is a cultivar. The cultivar name says "this particular plant"... It doesn't matter whether the plant was nursery-bred or found in the wild, though it is likely that it was from a nursery. There isn't a B. nodosa 'Minnie Mouse' with an award, so the cultivar name isn't recorded anywhere. If a person has a plant that they consider outstanding, they may give it a cultivar name just because they want to give it some recognition, but the name doesn't have any official standing. The database Orchidwiz does list awards from quite a few national organizations around the world, there isn't a listing for it, but it is possible that it was awarded someplace, I don't have access to all awards in the world, so maybe it's official someplace. If they clone the plant (mericlone, stem propagation), or make divisions, those exact genetic copies can also have that cultivar name.

Its not too suprising that it has a cultivar name and no award. Its unique because the plant is dwarfed. Its about half the size of a normal nodosa while the flowers are nearly full size.
