Mounting season for Laelia finckeniana Male
Default Mounting season for Laelia finckeniana

Hello everyone!

I purchased a Laelia finckeniana (albida x anceps) last spring and I wonder when the right time for mounting it is. My conditions can be quite damp in winter and I want to avoid rot. I know these particular types of Laelia are quite happy when mounted, so I'm determined to give it a go.

I know the time for repotting or mounting is when new roots appear or just before, but I can't find much information about Laelia albida in this respect. My finckeniana is doing extremely well in the pot right now and it seems to be growing new root tips from the new immature bulbs. That makes me think I should repot now, despite the fact that cold and short days are coming.

Any advice is welcome

On a mount with no sphagnum moss the roots will dry quickly, so I don't think there would be a problem. It will grow roots when it's ready. Just be sure it is well attached.

I put a Laelia gouldiana 'Greta Garbo' into the crotch of a tree at my mother's house in southern California in January one year and it did fine.
