Rth. Free Spirit
This mini-catt has yellow flowers. I think it looks sort of like an Rth. Free Spirit 'Carmela' ------ but isn't that one.
The buds are just about to open I think!

I have this hybrid and it is about to bloom for the first time too!
I have the cultivar Free Spirit "Eric"... My name is Eric and I am somewhat of a free spirit and that is why I bought the plant. Seems like a great grower, can't wait to see it bloom!

Thanks for mentioning that you're growing one of the Rth. Free Spirit orchids too!
I recall the time when I was searching for a particular cultivar ---- 'Laina' ----- the story began at this link here.
I assumed that I acquired one of those ----- that is 'Laina', which was what the tag indicated. But it turned out to not be that one!
But it was all ok ----- as I was looking for some yellow coloured flowers, and this one that I ended up with (not a 'Laina') was also nice ------ with a hawaiian flower look about it hehehe.
Looking very much forward to pics of your Rth. Free Spirit flowers as well Eric!!! |

The hatches are opening!
The orchid pot can't be moved at the moment, as I noticed that the roots grew through holes at the bottom of the pot, and then through the drainage grate, and into the sand below the grate as well. The roots sort of burrow into the sand - and stay near the surface of the sand - they don't burrow too deeply, and they survive no problem at all. As for soil-borne issues ----- I haven't encountered any. But is something to keep in mind maybe.
The orchid in the other pot on the right-hand side has done the same thing. So both are stuck in their current positions are the moment.
A cross-beam structural support (not seen in the pic - not in view) made it challenging to take pics of the flower. I had to move a pot on the left-hand side out of the way in order to get the camera into there to capture this pic hehe.

Fully opened up now. Yellow citrus refreshments time again!
The right-portion of the lower section of the lip is naturally-folded back a bit - leading to some asymmetry.
But natural is nice - even though - on the other hand - I could probably do the undivine intervention (link here) thing (using the 'helping hands' approach) ----- but I won't do it for this one, as I can't move the pot - and can't get into there - needs to be done in the shade ----- otherwise the heat could spoil the lip from a warm/hot metal clip heheh.
The orchid pot that I had to move in order to get these pics has a C. Jewel Red 'Shinzu' in it, which just so-happens to have one flower bud opening.

The other bud is opening up now this morning. The lip might be more symmetrical for this one. Extra lemon flavour.
Also noticed an ant on the lower-right-hand side of the lip ----- doing some photo-bombing heheh.

SADE ----- thanks for your post! The tide has come in for this month! I had a period of low tide ------ with not much happening. Nice to see some flowers again.
I have different yellow flower mini-catt with a couple of buds on it ..... maybe another week or so until we get some activity on that one.
This is the awesome thing about this forum here, how we can all upload our orchid pics and constantly seeing beautiful flowers every day. The beauty of internet and digital photography technology!
