Default Cattleya nobilior var amaliae - first bloom

I got this Cattleya nobilior last fall. It's my first one, and this was an experiment for me. I pulled it out of its pot and bark, put it bare root into a clay pot and prepared for it to sulk (or die). Instead, it's thrived and finally bloomed. These blooms are newly open in the last couple of days. I can't wait to see if there's going to be fragrance!

Very nice, congrats! It should smell nice during the heat of the day when the sun is on it.

I have this same plant! I got it from Marlow I don't remember if I posted a pic when it bloomed or not. I also was not sure how it would do in the conditions I can provide, but I've had some surprise successes before, so I gave it a shot. I took out of all of its bark and just kinda threw it in a shallow clay pot and threw in some big pieces of scoria, and it has done great. Congratulations on yours! It looks amazing!

Just an aside, mine lasted for a really long time in bloom. I was surprised how long the flowers lasted.

JScott, we do have the same plant! Mine came from Marlow's too.

I'd love to see a picture of yours in bloom, if you can put your hands on it. Go ahead and post it here if you can.

Here she is I knew I had to have taken a picture of it, because it's a Brazilian species, and my best friend is Brazilian and lives is Belo Horizonte, so I always send him pictures of my Brazilian species when they bloom
