Update: It finally bloomed
Update.
Happy to report that after 40years, this cattleya finally bloomed. 4 nice pink flowers and very fragrant too. Everyone were so excited and we actually forgot to take pictures until 3 blooms have withered away. Attach pic shows the only flower left (i blurred out the rest so that the focus is on the final surviving bloom).
This is what I did. The very moment I saw a few pseudobulbs have started to develop sheath, including the development of new pseudobulbs, I moved the entire pot the opposite side of the garden, where it gets shaded sunlight from 3pm and direct sunlight from 4pm-630pm. there is heavy rain everyday. We were able to ensure that by 8pm, we managed to position the plant in complete darkness. We left it there for over a week until severe typhoon kicked in, so we moved it back to its original location and forgot about it. To our astonishment, it bloomed shortly after returning to its original spot.
Thanks to all who contributed all the helpful tips. We enjoyed the very strong sweet fragrant from the blooms.
We will start doing the same thing to a few more pots of cattleya that havent bloomed for over 40 years.
