I would doubt that water culture would be good for a Cattleya - lots of air around the roots, and drying out between waterings are super-important. Kelpmax is a good root-stimulant. You did well, whacking that rotting pseudobulb. CambriaWhat was spot-on noting the emergency... when rot gets into the rhizome it can progress and kill very fast, so the surgery removed it, great. Let it dry out a bit. The bark looks like it's a good size, or an inorganic medium such as volcanic lava rock (scoria) or LECA may be even better in a very humid environment. If there are few roots, the challenge is to pot the plant so that it doesn't wobble. A stake might help there. That stability is really important, because you don't want moving around to abrade those tender emerging root tips.

Anyone happen to know if there's a story behind the generation of this name ----- 'hair pig' ?

Even the Golf Green part is interesting.

hyena ------ great choice --- in purchasing this one. Love the green colour, and the frilly lip - along the lines of digbyana. It will be interesting to see if hair pig smells anything like digbyana. I will have to do some online searching!
