Not sure what happened. I made a bunch of divisions at the same time and all the others made it through fine. The leaves on both turned yellow and dropped over the course of several days. Guessing something in the after care went wrong - maybe too wet. Wish I had just left the plant complete! Those pics are different blooms from the same plant prior to the fateful day.

I reckon your decision to divide was quite justified. Just never know when one plant can unexpectedly develop something nasty - like a disease or something. So dividing is definitely fair enough - making backups.

Hard to say what happened for sure. If all the usual precautions were followed, such as clean cutting tools and time for the cut to seal up, then maybe some nasty stuff did get in through the cut region.

I take some solace in the fact that I have good pictures. There also may still be a piece of it out there somewhere. I divided it successfully about three years prior and sold one lead for a nice price. Of course, I immediately used the money to buy additional plants, like a small 'Tokyo #1" that eventually grew into a monster.

That's excellent to hear that the plant could well still be around today. I was going to type the same thing earlier - about the photos. I had just forgotten to add it in the previous post - in that the beauty of those flowers are captured pretty much forever in those excellent photographs.

Great-looking walkeriana blooms. Interesting to see the differences in coloration that the temperatures (and perhaps light intensity during bud development) can have.

Thanks! I imagine some varieties may be affected more than others, but definitely an interesting phenomenon.

What are you currently growing?
