Default Cattleya nobilior var coerulea

I got this plant last year from La La Orchids, and was a bit disappointed it didn't bloom in the spring as they normally do for me. Then I was pleasantly surprised when what I assumed to be a new growth turned out to be a spike! When I started keeping nobilior I read that it preferred to grow horizontally, but this plant literally sprawls. The spike is actually on a part of the plant which grew outside of the 10" pot, so I set a pot full of leca next to the main pot to catch the runaway and make for an easy division.

Very cool! I'm curious to see if those segments become "bluer" as the flower ages.

Compare the bloom from the other day with one that just opened:

Yup, but so far only the tiniest hint of fragrance.

I have always been curious about these because I love my walkerianas. Yours is very nice.
