Default Cattleya walkerinter (C. walkeriana x C. intermedia)

Second blooming of this C. walkerinter (C. walkeriana x C. intermedia) that I've been growing as a seedling for some years. The C. walkeriana used in the crossing was cerulea and the C. intermedia was alba. I have never seen the parents of it, but the person who has done this cross lives near by and I hope some day I meet the plants. The shape and color has changed a little, as expected, also this time it has bloomed just one flower. Although it bloomed some months earlier than last year, so I hope it flowers again this season and with more flowers.

Fist blooming (last year in september):

Blooming now:

Some siblings of it came as concolor flowers, unfortunately this one didn't, but it is amazing as well.

Very nice. I especially like the compact stature of the plant. Did the flowers inherit any of walkeriana's wonderful fragrance? Congratulations. They're quite attractive.

Yes, its really compact. It has the walkeriana's fragrance but mainly in the early morning, but not in the rest of the day, unfortunately. Thanks!

Forgive me for being a spoiler, but this is one of those crosses that makes little sense:

Var coerulea is recessive.
Fma. alba is recessive.

When you breed the two, you get tipo, but rarely as good as two good tipos would produce, since coerulea tends to be a smaller/weaker plant and flower.

But you get good sib crosses and can introduce new genetics into a line.

Sory guys, just now I realized I gave the wrong information. The C. walkeriana was tipo actually, got confused when writhing the post.

About the crossing making little sense I do agree with what has been said. I don't know what who has made the crossing was looking for, I just got one sibling because I enjoy primaries. Some of the siblings were a nice concolor pattern, unfortunately this one didn't. It isnt for sure a show plant, but it is amazing as well. I also enjoy this crossing becauses it involves two species very traditionals from two very distinct regions of Brazil. The C. intermedia employed may has an outstanding shape, probably near or better than a good shape C. walkeriana. I believe It may get a little better in the future
