Cattleya flowers do get better as the plant gets bigger!

Thanks neophyte, a most unusual color for its time.
This came from Stewart Orchids and was patented when it was released.

Thanks, it got an 87 point Award of Merit from the AOS in 1990. The award description said it would have gotten an FCC, but the sepals were reflexed and the lip had “asymmetrical furling”.
These sepals are fine and the lip looks good. However, the natural spread is just shy of the 17.5cm of the awarded plant. Who knows - maybe I’ll take it to judging next week if the flowers are still good.

SouthPark - the “curled up” that you indicated are the sepals. The “rolled back” are the petals. The judges had a problem with the sepals and the lip. If you have access to the AOS awards program, you can see the differences between the award photo and this flower, which in my opinion is fairly flat.

Thanks Bayard! Later on, I'll find that award photo. I joined online AOS early this year, so hopefully I got access to those ones. Otherwise, I'll find that one. All the best if you take it to the judging next week! Very exciting!
