What Is the rhizome cutting move you mentioned?
Some plants are reluctant to produce more than a single new growth at a time. If I want a division from such a plant (with 6-7 pseudobulbs in a line), I simply cut the rhizome with a clean razor blade (while the plant is still in the pot), so there is at least 3-4 PBs in the front, and at least 3 PBs in the 'backbulb' division.

This forces the BB division to activate one of the dormant 'eyes' and produce the extra new growth (without disturbing the roots).

All three are really nice. I admit, the second one is my favorite but the other two are quite pretty and worth having in a collection, too. How nice that none of the three are a disappointment!

A couple of the ones I sent you recently were done like that... I snipped off the leading growth, and left the rest in the pot to start a new growth. It's a good technique when you want to share a plant, but don't want the hassle of unpotting and dividing. And with growing in LECA, it's not too hard to wriggle out the cut part while keeping pressure on the part of the rhizome you're leaving in the pot.

That's kind of like a gardening hack (pun intended)... should have added it to your garden hack thread.

I think that second blooming of #1 with the higher light intensity is my favorite, so far. Super nice color contrast.
