What do I do now with these two? Female
Default What do I do now with these two?

Hi,
I went to the OrchidExpo in Montreal this weekend, just to find out, that my TSG order never arrived , after wandering around vendor stands for about half an hour, I came home with this:
Cycd. Taiwan Gold 'ORCHIS' FCC/WOC GCP/20THWOC
Cycd. Taiwan Gold 'Taiwan Orange'
Took them out of their "moss thimbles", potted them, now what? When do I start watering? The Taiwan Orange has roots just starting, the other one not yet.
Please help, my first Cycnodes ever...

I was told that when the roots are about an inch long, you start watering. Those who are experts will certainly chime in and give you better advice on growing this.

Check out this page on SVO's website. I love these kinds of simple, explicit instructions! Catasetinae for Dummies!

Ok, thanks a lot Leafmite and cbuchman!
I've read the SVO culture info, and other ones besides, but I'm still being stupid about waiting for the shoot to grow a certain size, or waiting for the roots to be a certain length before commencing watering...

Root length matters the most, though I'd say both of those growths are big enough to water.

I agree on the growths being big enough to water, but root length is the caveat. It can make or break a growth's development in the coming months. I'd say if the p-bulbs still look nice and firm wait to water. If the plant is in obvious dehydration stress, water once and see if it perks up.

Thanks guys, I see no dehydration stress anywhere, but I have this big, unnatural itch to -at least- spray the medium...I need to stay strong ...

So...little update- I think the Gold is virused or otherwise "diseased" and the Orange is growing well. I've caught the problem a bit late (when the tips of foliage where browning gradually down) and spraying now with Physan20 once a week- not that it will help for a virus... On the photo you can really see the difference in growth, also noticeable for roots, and the second pic is a closeup of chlorosis?
