Don't feel bad ask away. I got one of these 2 years ago for Christmas. But when I got it it was so eaten up w a fungal infection I lost it, there was no way of saving it. So I am hoping this one is a keeper! But I feel Seattle Orchids won't send me a sick unhappy plant. So I hope I can care for it and keep it happy!

I might be about to get a Coryanthes (I'm hoping for a macrantha) next Friday. One was offered at a show last weekend, and I was having a really hard time deciding, so I am going to see the grower. I've always wanted one; it's been on my wish list for years, but I thought it had to be huge (too big to fit in my growing area) to be able to bloom, which I have since learned is not true. I can hardly wait, because they were in spike when I saw them a few days ago!

Good luck with your new one from SO! The pics they have on their website are stunning. Those spots!!!

It's still kicking today but the funniest thing is that the plant is happiest about 3-4 feet diagnolly away from my propane heater!!!! Of all things for it to like, it sits with my Dragon fruit cactus and is currently sending out a new growth and some new roots. I'm am spritzing the air roots everyday though bc they dry out. I have not found a basket for it yet though. Still on the hunt. Good luck and hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.

Default just an update

Well we had a week of 80*+ weather and last two days the heater has been on...I was thinking I could stick my Coryanthes outside.....not anymore! It's still going strong and appears really really happy. It is currently in a 12 inch orchid box and barely fits in that and is technically to tall. Oopsie! But it now has a total of 3 growths. That I have found and I can't tell if it's another spike or not I am blind as a bat. But I will be happy with new growths.

It still has a lot of its leaves and they do not show signs of falling off yet. It sits in my NE facing window that is shadowed by our covered front porch and gets extra heat and filtered light from my dogs heat lamp that we turn on at night to keep him extra warm in his house.

There are closer to 8 growths instead of the 4 I originally thought

I got my macrantha today! It's late, and I'm too tired to take photos and upload them, but I'll post them soon. This thing has SOOOO many roots!

Yours looks good from what I can see in the thumbnails.

I have never figured out how to in bed them into my post. I'm not that tech savvy. It seems really happy. I had not even realized it had done that many growths until today.

At least it's growing roots so it must be happy with you.

@Kevinator mine has just started to seriously pump out the growths though. So maybe yours will get into a groove and begin growing too.

Hi folks.

I remember to have some time ago contributed at length to a thread titled
'Understanding Coryanthes'.

I humbly suggest that you might go and look that up ...
