Question Catasetum denticulatum

No replies at all re my "baby" catasetum! Can anyone advise me, please? The pseudobulb on my little plant is very fat and healthy looking but one of the two leaves is now turning yellow. Just wondering if at this young stage it will go dormant for the winter or should it keep growing steadily until more mature. Thanks for any help,

Shirley

Shirley,

They tend to lose their leaves at maturity. It should probably lose the other leaf shortly. Stop watering and mist occasionally to keep the pseudobulb from shriveling.

Regards,
Rick

I also noticed that in my Colmanara Wildcat. After a new shoot/plant came out, the older bulbs still look healthy but the leaves turned yellow. I thought it might be time for them to become back bulbs.

Thank you, Rick, for your help. I'd hate to lose this little plant so have my fingers crossed!

I tend to do the same with the young ones if they start to yellow and/or if they loose their leaves.

When they do not yellow, I try do induce another grow and then a very short rest period.

august is a bit early to lose its leaves and go dormant for the winter--did the temps drop a bit overnight in your area?

Thanks for your message, Mark. The second leaf on the plant fell off just today but the bulb looks good. Our night time temps have been a bit cooler lately but only to about 58 deg. I thought that August was a bit early too but I guess I'll just have to mist and hope for the best. Do you have any suggestions?

The reason -I think- that the leaves dropped off is the drop in temp-which means dormancy for the plant and the ending of a strict watering schedule--you might mist if the plant appears shriveled but let the plant go to sleep and wake up refreshed in the spring
