Default Urban Cycnoches chlorochilon (Female flowers)

Catasetinae adapts quite well to urban live, the only thing they need is a palm tree that retains the base of old leaves or some husk attached to the trunk and have the capacity of retain "humus", or if no palms are available at the place, them a piece or rotten wood is more than Okydoky for them..... Sometimes are also possible to find in open slopes growing on old clusters of grass roots

Could sound strange to the forum since Catasetinae are "exotic" plants for europeans and North-Americans, but here they aren't exotic at all but every day plants, and it is possible to pump some gasoline in any pumping station, and wile waiting to fill the tank, have time to stare a Catasetum macrocarpum in full bloom at the palms nearby.

The photo don't show it, but this Cycnoches growing in my House roof is on a more larger cluster of Catasetinae (2 chlorochilon, 2 macrocarpum, and some seedlings of maculatum and callosum all growing together)

Last photo is a partial view of my small nursery with a glimpse of Cattleya jenmanii "rubra" and Phalaenopsis Maki Watanabe in bloom

Adios
Jan

That is so cool! I would love to have Catasetinae growing wild everywhere! Unfortunately in Hawaii, our wet season in winter and our dry season is in summer so I don't think these plants would do well wild. Oh well.

I remember those very well, and indeed that cluster of catasetinae plants is a natural piece of art for any catasetinae collector.

Jan I agree with you, they are quite common but not like weeds, specially cycnoches.

I guess Hawaii has good temperate conditions for catasetinae, in my opinion the lack of natural polinators is the reason of not having them growing naturally in the wild since some orchid collectors brought them long time ago.

Just because I care about of your nervous system, I had to mention the scent I have right now of the male flowers one on the garden and the other on the same cluster of plants on the roof, adding to my home a good breakfast experience... this morning breakfast was like eating with two chanel bottles open near by.

Jan, you are so lucky... That plant is gorgeous... We use to have plenty of Cycnoches chlorochilon growing on the trees at the house of my Parents in Guanare, just near the dinning room... great!

It is not only my nervous system will be destroyed, but I’ll get heart attack too, if you will continue like that …..

Once again
