Default Catasetum macrocarxtapriceps :)

Well, it's catasetum time again....I love it! This is the controversial macrocarpum that sparked a big identity discussion last year. It's that time again! The tag says Ctsm. macrocarpum, but a few of the Catasetum-loving members believe that it may be Ctsm. Xtapriceps. Well, Ramon and Bruno.....I made sure I took some different pictures of it this time, to give you a better view. Maybe we can come to a conclusion on what it is. It currently has 4 spikes, and a new one is starting. Thanks!

All right Jasen, no doubt about it, is a xtapiriceps with a very strong macrocarpum influence. I guess this is the plant you mentioned on the cycnoches loddigesii thread, and now we can see four spikes coming out from at least two psbulbs.

Yep, that's the one....and yeah, they're coming from 2 p-bulbs. My Ctsm. integerrimum is the same way, and should start opening any day. What are the determining factors that would make this xtapriceps? Something with the trident?

Thatīs right Jasen, in the second picture you can see that the trident expression in the lip commonly observed in macrocarpum is altered in yours. The one in the middle is very squared and the lateral ones are almost imperceptibles. This fingerprint is the clue to distinguish macrocarpum from xtapiriceps when the plant has a very strong macro influence.

like bruno told you, this case is like some of the "Cts pileatum" from Savanna land and galery forest at Venezuela... they are 100% pileatum but some of them have some macrocarpum dot's on the tepals, other have some red or deep yellow, other have some vegetative aspects (like purple on pseudobuls, or to erect flower spikes), that tell's the grower that those pileatums are in fact xtapiriceps... Your case like bruno told you is the "other hand" of the same slow change in phenotipe xtapiriceps have depending the amounts of the species
