Default Cycnodes Miva Piel De Sapo

Bruno mentioned once that Cycnoches cooperi could be a good choice to obtain something interesting in hybridisation. I agree with him. Even in intergeneric orchid hybrids the result can be quite appealing. I think that is the case with Cycnodes Miva Piel De Sapo, a primary hybrid from 2003 done by Michel Vacherot. Cycnoches cooperi is one of the parents. The second one is Mormodes revoluta.
Plant, which I bought in France, is blooming now. Here it is.

Whole inflorescence

The flowers are of good size and fragrant.

Beautiful flowers! The spots look very different from what I am used to seeing.

Wow Gena very beautiful. I am starting to think that you must have in your house a botanical garden full of catasetinae plants. The only thing I do not like for such a beauty plant is the name (toad skin) because I have never see a toad with such nice color display. Do you know if all the seedlings of that cross are similar ??. Yes, indeed both parents are spectacular thatīs why the result is so interesting. Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

Amazing hybrid! The spots are great and the lablelum has such a unique shape for a Cycnodes. Usually they are much more round. This one is very cool! Congrats!

This is because most Cycnodes have been made with Eucycnoches section rather than Heteranthes. The Heteranthes impart a much smaller labellum on the Cycnodes hybrids. Look at the cross of Mo. sinuata x Cyc pentadactylon - has a very similar labellum.

Now that is one heck of a tidbit of information! Thanks!

Agree!
Steve, if you are interested there is good information about hybridisation of Cycnoches in part II here.
Body
Aceetobe, you are absolutely right – labellum of Cycnodes Jumbo Canaan (Cycnoches pentadactylon x Mormodes sinuata) looks quite similar to shown one. Take a look here Pine Ridge Orchids - Photos - Cyc. & Cycd. hybrids

Bruno in the form yes, they are quite similar, but coloration can be different. Take a look here http://www.orchidees-vacherot.com/me...y/Cycnodes.jpg

Mine is somewhere in between those two.
