Default Catasetum viridiflavum

Aliens are here …. in form of flowers of Catasetum viridiflavum. Here is its male flowers and it is blooming at the moment for the very first time.

These really do look like space invaders! I was wondering, how big are the bulbs when this one first blooms? I have a plant I brought back as a tiny seedling a few years back from the dry forest of Panama and I think it might be this species (not sure though), so I'm wondering if I might get lucky with blooms this year.

Yes you are totally rigth, they look like extraterrestrial, some catasetinae flowers are really weird, that's why I like them very much.

Steve, the PB of mine is only 4 inches in height now. As I know adult plants have PB approximately 7-10 inches or somewhere there.

Oh, I forgot to mention, that I simply love this fragrance – there are lot of notes in it which remind me of a mixture of pine needles, eucalyptus and wintergreen ….. very fresh one!
