Default Catasetum (appendiculatum x pileatum)

Whoa, got this as a seedling about 2-3 years ago, and this is first bloom...from what I can figure, appendiculatum may be a syn. for barbatum (small flower, toothbrush-y looking lip). Smallish flowers, though not too much smaller than some pileatum; they have an appealing fringe, and a very subtle daytime scent with overtones of eucalyptus, grapefruit, and rose.
Regards - Nancy

Wow!

Nancy...it is so exotic looking! I'm glad for your patience with this plant, otherwise we wouldn't have the chance to see it's outstanding beauty.

for sharing it with us.

Very nice looking flowers, and the info about the scent is interesting also. Too bad we can't transmit that over the net!

As always, I love it! Where do you get most of your Catasetinae from?

I did use the word 'kleptoculturist' didn't I?
Actually, many from Gene Monnier's fleeing-FL sale; others by stalking, begging, etc. Same way everybody gets them.

WOW, great growing Nancy! Gorgeous flowers on yours.

I have 3 Cattasetums and they have thoroughly confused me. Seeing yours has reminded me not to give up and to keep thinking of the end results.

Congratulations!!

I know exactly why, though I don't remember their names...3 hurricanes in a row, in the same year. It just wears you down, I think. We get pretty tired of putting the fence back up, and the roof back on - losing one or more greenhouses must be pretty discouraging. I think he just didn't have the heart to start over again, again, again.
Very nice guy; I told him if he lived in south Louisiana, everyone would pronounce his name correctly (and his wife's as well, if it is in the french way, Jean Zhohn.
Cheers - Nancy
