I bought this as a bare-root p-bulb (actually, it didn't have any roots) at the WOC, in January. I've been waiting anxiously to see this one bloom! It just started a second spike that is already 2-3" long! One bud already died because an ant, or something, triggered the pollinia.....it's got a hair trigger!

I love it! This is one of the more bizzare looking Catasetums and it looks like you've done a great job with it! Congrats! This one definitely on "the list."

Catasetums, Stanhopeas and Cattleyas?? Yes please!!!!
Great job Jasen,
I ended up with one of these also from the WOC...of course mine bloomed while away on vacation last week, so I only got to see the final days of the blooms and they weren't really photo worthy as I grow them outside and the rain did a whamo on them, so I'll just enjoy your photos!
I love the goblin looking catasetums!
Cool flower! I am surprised those are male flowers -- I thought the hooded ones were usually female.

Heheh that alone would disqualify for me -- can't stand anise. Too bad the flowers don't last longer (that and the large plant size are the main reasons I just enjoy the work of others instead of trying them myself)

Paul, I think it is a female, but it still has an anther cap that looks like it comes off. This is what I was referring to, I didn't mean to write pollinia.....oops! The one that died was missing it's anther cap.
