Default Cyc. Jean E Monnier

Another hermaphroditic form of a Cycnoches this year! Ive never had these forms, much less two separate plants in the same season! You can actually see the pollinia that were triggered by are still hanging on in the pics. Anyway, as you can see, this is by no means a stunning flower. If you look in my gallery, there is a picture of what the male flowers look like from last year and they are much more attractive (this is the red Jean E Monnier, not the brown one). Unfortunately, my pics dont represent the color accurately. These flowers are more of a dark purple brown than what you see here. The scent is pretty strong and very pleasant. Im going to try to push for a second bloom and see if I can get male flowers. The fact that I can manipulate 3 very different types of flowers from the same plant is very cool! Anyway, thanks for looking!

Maybe not stunning, but I really like that splash of white. Gives it a nice contrast. I think it's a cutie and good luck on your manipulations. Keep us posted.

I still think is pretty, I have one or two Catasetum alliance members but they are really bright gold and very dark maroon, and they dont have a pleasant fragrance.

At first I thought my Cycnoches Jean E. Monnier was mislabled until I looked at the picture of your male flowers from last year. The hermaphroditic form is still pretty nice. My Jean E. Monnier bloomed in early last month (July). http://www.orchidboard.com/community...06&ppuser=5896

I have a Cycnoches Jean Monnier that I got this past June from Fred Clarke of Sunset Valley Orchids. It's only a seedling, but I'm looking forward to my first bloom. Will try to take pix if that happens. I am not very talented with my digital camera, and have actually taken only one or two pix with it. They weren't very good. But.....always an opportunity to practice. My plants are now summering outdoors here in hot, humid and exceptionally wet (this summer) Jacksonville, FL, so hopefully we'll see some major growth. Thus far, they seem to be doing fairly well, pseudobulb formation is coming along. Maybe this fall or early winter I'll see my first spikes.... can only wait with high hopes. Wish me good fortune!

Good fortune! The cool thing about digital cameras is that you can now make up for quality with quantity! If you cant get a good pic, then take 20! You'll always find at least 1 good one! I look forward to seeing your Jean Monnier as well. They're just so variable in their coloration.

Steve, I'm envious!

HALP! My Jean E Monnier? Yesterday, I noticed a NEW LEAD starting from the maturing one! What gives? I fertilized the hell outta this thing, all summer. FULL SUN. What'd I do wrong? What'd I do right? I'm envious, Steve!
