Embreea rodigasiana 'Rogue Orchids' x Stanhopea tigrina 'Glory of Mexico' - Orchid Board

I've never grown a Stanhopea type plant before, and I bough this seedling kind of just on impulse, because the flowers of each parent are just amazing. I've had it about a year, and when I got it, it just one tiny little pseudobulb with one tiny little leave, but it has grown like crazy. It now has four growths, each one bigger than the previous one, and a fifth one just starting. I'm growing it in fine bark with some sphagnum mixed in, and since it's in a basket, I water it every day and it seems happy. I'm excited that it seems so happy and is growing so well. I have no idea how big it will have to be to bloom, and I may still have quite a long wait ahead of me. I think it's a new hybrid, as I can't find any bloom pictures of this hybrid anywhere, so I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like. I don't have a lot to say about it, but I'm excited, and I just wanted to share

Is anybody else growing this one?

Looks good! I'd say your several years away from blooming. I'm curious to see what the flowers look like.

Yes, I'm quite excited to see what the flowers look like! I tried to look it up on the RHS website, and this hybrid doesn't appear to be registered, unless I just didn't search for it correctly. I love buying seedlings of new hybrids. It is so exciting to see how they will turn out. Odom recently crossed Miya's Fascination 'Odom's Wildfire' with Toshie Aoki 'Encore'. Miya's Fascination is my favorite red, and Toshie Aoki is my favorite yellow with a red lip, so I bought three of those seedlings. I can't wait to see how they turn out, and how different they will be from each other.

And I looked at all twelve pages of your pics. They are amazing. My god you have some nice plants, and your gardens are just beautiful. And it looks like you travel a lot. I'm just a public school teacher, so I travel as much as I can, usually to Brazil where my best friend lives, but I'd like to go to some of the places it looks like you have been. I wish I could travel more.

Ha! Thank you so much! I used to live in Hawaii, where growing orchids is easy. lol

Brazil is definitely on my bucket list! Especially since that where most of my orchids are from and where the fish I like to grow are also from!

You should definitely go to Brazil. My best friend from college is from there, and he moved back after he finished his degree. He lives in Belo Horizonte, and he's not the orchid grower, but through my travels there, I have made lots of other friends, and one of them grows orchids, and his orchid garden is amazing. He grows a lot of native Brazilian orchid species, and he grows them with great ease haha. I'm a school teacher, and I go down there and spend every summer in Brazil with my friends from there. We've visited many other cities in Brazil, and they are all amazing. The people there are so kind and welcoming, and it truly is an amazing country. You should definitely go when you get a chance. Rio and Sao Paulo are of course amazing, but there are so many other great cities. Recife, Porto de Galinhas (which consistently ranks as one of the best beaches in the whole world), Manaus, Salvador, Ouro Preto, and many others are all worth visiting.

I think very highly of Brazil and of the people there. I've never had a bad time in Brazil. Everybody is so kind, and they're so excited to meet me (they love Americans haha), and everyone I meet treats me with the utmost hospitality. You really should go when you have a chance.
