Mormodia Leopard Drops
A nice division I picked up from Fred last summer. Blooming for the first time for me with 96 buds on 5 spikes. A strange thing happened, which the 2nd pic captured perfectly. About 1/3 of the buds opened partially and blasted promptly, another 1/3 bloomed reddish pink and the last 1/3 bloomed orangish. I think the plant was sitting too close to an open window. Oh well. Next year. Enjoy

Based on my experience with other plants, the colour change is most probably from temperture fluctuations. Anthocyanins, which are responsible for the purple overlay, are dependant on temperature for their developement. Cooler conditions tend to intensify their colour. I've never come behind the entire process chemistry, but the visual evidence is indicative.

Ah yes, this would have been an interesting pair for my Jumbo World. I wonder what these combined with the pale green would produce?

beautiful! Looks like it was grown in moss as Fred does and you took the root ball and put in a clear pot with bark?

I would hope for a paler orange/ pink background with more pronounced spots for color, flatter and fuller floral segments from the Jumbo World, and hope the floriferousness held.

Yes I just slip potted it. I think the roots were trying to engulf the plastic pot it was in when I got it. |
