I was out of town last weekend. An Echinocereus pacificus flowering for the first time opened and closed 7 flowers I didn't see.

I haven't update this one for a while...first time it bloomed, last summer, it happened while I was away for vacations. When I got home, the blooms were almost dry and gone.
This year I hope I'll see it...they're about to open...everytime I wake up or get home I think it happened already... so far it didn't. Maybe tomorrow.

Getting really close... I think I see a tiny bit of separation of the sepals on the flower on the far left, and possibly the one on the right as well. If not tonight, than perhaps in the morning. But I think very soon... When mine looked like that, I started my camcorder on a tripod... 15 minutes later I caught the "pop".

This is what I captured... it's real-time (I just clipped off the waiting time until it started, but did not remove any frames once it did) Keep watching until it says "done", a bit over a minute. I wish there was a way to capture the burst of fragrance when it opens.

It looks like it is in your house, in the shower... You will know when it pops open by the burst of fragrance.
