One of the wine red Mormodes, offspring grown from seed and imported by Elsner. Grown in birchwood sawdust. More info here

Absolutely cool!

And, Paul, your little icon reminds me of the frosty morning when I had not sooner told the kids never to lick anything metal on a frosty morning than I heard one daughter behind going uh, uh, and turned around to see her with her tongue stuck to the handrail outside the front door. At least she had the sense not to pull away, but we still laugh about that one.

@RonaldHanko people really do that? For real? Bahaha. I used to babysit identical twin boys from age 2-7 and their older brother. Never had to tell them not to lick frozen things....other then to be careful w their popsicles but that was not sticking them in each others ears...

btw I've got a mormodes from Elsner, labelled as M. tapoayense. It's just started to open flowers, but I suspect it's mislabelled. The buds are just the same as the M. vinaceum shown by Euplusia, and color is exactly the same.
