Catasetum Madness
Default Catasetum Madness

My Catasetum collection has recently expanded greatly and some of them are going mad!

Already had:

Cycnodes Wine Delight
Catasetum galeritum
Catasetum intergerrimum

Recently aquired:

3 lost tag plants (1, 4 and 7! 1 came from a different auction by the same seller)

Catasetum wendlingeri (pileatum x planiceps)
Catasetum sanguineum

Tiny seedlings she threw in for free:
Catasetum tabulare
Catasetum Orchidglade (pileatum x expansum)

And so total chaos! Some are going into dormancy, some are starting new shoots...

Wendlingeri: Came with one small mature pulb, and two shoots, the larger of which unfortunately got snapped off in the post. Not to complain... it's since started 3 more, one of them from the base of the other existing shoot which right now is only just beginining to unfurl leaves... The mature pulb is looking a little pale. Not surprised somehow. Hopefully it will put out more ROOTS soon lol.

My Wine Delight has a bump, which I think will probably be a spike. No problem there!

Sanguineum: came as two small pulbs, looking plump but dormant. Potted up and it's now got two small growths. Not sure what they are: it seems too small to flower (I don't think the biggest pulb is bigger than 2 inches... and I think it's supposed to be a large catasetum). But if they are shoots... what do I do with a plant with two shoots near the TOP of the pulbs!?! Not sure if I should replant it with the old pulbs lying down so the new roots have less far to go?!? Or do you think it will manage with it the normal way up?

Lost tag number 7 also has a growth (maybe two) starting which I think may well be a spike. Anyone want to take bets on what the plant is? Here's a link to the auction page (I'd post my own picture... but it looks much the same except the leaves got bent in the post and are now dying off so it looks a lot tattier!)

PS: I'm currently eyeing up another set of auctions by another seller...

Will do when they flower! The auction ones of No. 7 will have to do for now!

(I'm thinking it might be a Cycnoches? Don't know if there's any way to even tell genus with these though till they flower!)

Thanks for the comments, and hope you all get the ones you want soon!

To be honest there are loads I've bid on and not got: probably some I'd rather have! The way I look at it, it's great to get some things I really want, but also great to have a few things that are unusual/interesting/a bargain. Especially if you are already paying postage! I'm looking forward to the day when I'll be the one selling on some divisions *G*. The Wine Delight (now officially spiking) and sanguinem (does appear to be keikis and the top of it's pulbs LOL) are definitely good buys though!

Anyway didn't want to say till they safely arrived, but I have now added:

Catasetum macrocarpum
Cycnoches egertonianum
Mormodes vinaceum x castroi

My first (unless the lost tags are...) Mormodes and Cycnoches! The Mormodes is a tiny seedling with pulb the size of a large pea! So wish me luck with that!

The bumps on No 7 haven't really developed much, so don't know if they are spikes or growths. Fingers crossed.
