Default Cycnodes Wine Delight 'Yellow Swan'

Cycnodes Wine Delight 'Yellow Swan' (one plant in full bloom and the other one is in spike with buds about to open)

This orchid is native to South America and is also called "Swan Orchids" as the flower when looked at from the sides resembles a silhouette of a swan with long neck spreading its wings. They produce very fragrant 4 inches yellow/greenish blooms on pendulous inflorescences that reminded me of the smell of peaches and berries. These plants usually bloom from fall to early spring. It is natural for this plant to drop all the leaves and provide new growths for the following year. I might divide this into three pots after its winter rest.
There is very few information about this plant so I followed the one written on the SVO site; the AOS article by STEPHEN R. BATCHELOR and CULTURE OF CATASETINAE, SCHLECTER by Harold Hills for this plantís culture and care.
I have these on the shaded south facing windowsill strictly indoors with humidifier, heater and oscillating fan. Potted in medium mix of lava rock, bark, charcoal and coco chips, weekly weakly Algoflash fertilizer alternated with seaweed mix only in the warm growing months. For winter rest it gets to be bare root on the cooler shaded part of the eastside window of my kitchen, no water or fertilizer until they produce at least 3 inches of roots then I continue with my watering regimen for another blooming cycle.

that's a very nice plant... however, I have always had my doubts about these yellow Wine Delight plants... the PBs, the coloration, flower shape and the twist on the side of the lips of some flowers (which I have never seen in red Wine Delight), look (IMO) too much like a Jumbo Puff... At least in all the plants I have seen...

Bud, do you know whether the fragrance is same as standard Wine Delight? I am editing this post.. I have just seen what you have written about the fragrance... does the fragrance change to something more with a touch of Eucalyptus during the day?

I'm really tempted to enter the world of Catasetinae, especially now that I have the space for it. . .

Well done Bud!!

To the previous poster, you should try them! The best part is that they go dormant during the winter and you can put them away somewhere, like the top of your refrigerator so you can forget about them until early spring wen they come back!!!
