Stanhopea tigrina - Help Needed
Default tigrina is easy

Tigrina is not fussy & grows well under cymbidium conditions. Re flowering, I moved a plant from my grandmothers, round 1/2km distance; didn't flower for 5 years, then bloomed every year after. Watch out for colletotrichium fungus on the leaves, this often hammers Stans & can be an ongoing problem if acquired.

Thank you purpleplantman! I originally kept my stans with my cyms, but got some sunburn on the leaves. I think it's a little bit too much for a Stanhopea. Currently they get direct sunlight till about 10:30 am. No fungus problems, but thanks for the advice!

Roly, the SIMPLEST solution to the problem is to use a WIRE basket. You won't need to "think". The flower spikes will "think" for you!

I am currently waiting on flower spike #2 of 3 of Stanhopea tigrina nigroviolacea 'Predator' FCC/AOS. This is one humdinger of an orchid when those flowers are fully open! WoW!!

#2 of 3. Apparently, this plant won't flower all 3 simultaneously. It would probably overdose on all of the activity!

People lament at how short the Stanhopea flowers last. WELL, if you have three spikes opening sequentially, the flowering time is extended.

duh....

Let your Stans grow!

I had approx. 40 stan species which grew in spag stuffed square wire baskets, no liners needed, no spike problems. The galvanised mesh was around 3 to4cm square. This is the best I have seen yet.bg
