Default Catasetum Macrocarpum (Female Flowers)

Two different shapes of female flowers of Cts. Macrocarpum. Besides the shape also the fragance is different from each other. Both plants were collected in the forest in the same place.

The variability of Catasetinae is one of th reasons why it is one of my favorite groups. Very cool!

Simply beautiful, Bruno!

I could never guess that two individual plants of the same specie collected in the same area can have different fragrance. Amazing!
The interesting thing is that the fragrance group for Catasetum macrocarpum is quite well-known and two major components of its fragrance are Carvone oxide and Phellandrene.

Since I found that plant (first two pics) I always suspected that something was different with it, first the the plant itself it looks different from the rest of the macrocarpums I have which were collected in the same place and also the scent, normaly it should be very pleasant but is the oposite in this case, it is very weak and not nice, I cannot find now any analog to compare it. Las year I had male flowers but I did not shoot any pic of them to show here. Thanks for the good information regarding composition of the fragance.
