Default Catasetum pileatum

just wanted to show you all this guy who is currently in bloom at my place... I was hoping it to be a var. aureum, but... I am still wondering why the label says "White/Yellow"

on the other hand, even if a bit dissapointed by the color (as I expected something different!) the plant has ver ygood flowers, slightly larger than the average, and more important: they smell like chewing gum... and that's something I had never seen (smelled ) in a Ctsm pileatum (or any other Ctsm) before....

Wow thats nice!! That seems like a lot of flowers for such a small plant. It must be very happy! Great growing! Im curious about the smell too. I wonder why its so different than normal?

It is indeed a very nice plant...

Isusrus, a mature well grown Ctsm. pileatum can have 10 - 12 flowers per spike (however, I would say that average is 5 - 6) This plant in particular is already mature (according to the vendor, at least 7 years old) and therefore not that small...

as per the fragrance.. a real surprise, as non of my other pileatum smell like this...

This is strange.... I'm certain that I posted here yesterday, but the message is nowhere in sight!

Nice plant, I'm really starting to get hooked on these catasetums. The pot is nice too!

hehe, Hi Camille, Catasetum are great plants... the only negative point I see with them is that it is not only me who loves them but also Thrips and mites.. you really need to use systemic insecticides very often with them... and then that the blooming period is quite short: if you are lucky, two weeks!

the pot is actually for Cymbidium, but the one I have planned for it is not yet ready. The Ctsm is poted in a normal plastic pot, and placed into this one only for the display
