Black pearl velamen and new leaf growth
Hi, new here !
I have a few blk pearls just out of dormancy. Roots are no longer than 3 inches. Humidity 60% and 12+ hours bright light each day.
My questions are:
1. Small splits in the velamen. Is that a concern?
2. Also the yellowing of a new leaf.
Pics attached.
Thank you in advance for the help.

I wouldn’t worry about the velamen. It’s dead cells, after all.

The splits in the roots don't look like a concern, maybe irregular growth, or even new roots popping out? The yellow leaf is the concern.

Thank you. Yes the yellow leaf has the shortest roots. I am keeping humidity high and 12+ hours of light.
Hopefully new leaf will not be the same.

I’m sorry but I must ask, what is a black pearl? Based on the picture, it seems to be a Phalaenopsis, is that correct?

I see pseudobulbs that look like the Catasetum family. Maybe Fredclarkeara After Dark 'Black Pearl'?

I think you are right Roberta. And a Phal doesn't come out of any dormancy.

Out of curiosity, why is this one growing with its roots suspended above the media?
