Semi hydro Catasetum Millenium Magic Witchcraft
As we're all aware, Catasetum have a pretty consistent dormancy cycle when grown in their standard ways. However I've grown this Catasetum for about 3 years, it's now growing its fourth pseudobulb under my care, so it's not exactly advanced beyond the cycle of growth it should have if grown in a normal draining pot in moss and bark.
With this context though, this Catasetum has never been allowee to dry for any prolonged period of time. And because of this, it's only been dormant for about a month. Why all this context? Well many of the old roots were still very healthy, some of these look deceptive and were soft, however, evidently they were soft because they desiccated due to drought, and then died off. I know this because they weren't rotten via overwatering and brown and mushy - they were white and mushy. But many were clearly uptaking water, and none of these old bulbs even have a hint of wrinkling.
I'm wondering then if not allowing Catasetums to go dormant for extended period may lead to getting multiple growing plants sooner than normal. Hopefully next year I'll have 2 growing and once from the same plant system.
Any thoughts? Also forgive my lack of cutting old flower spikes!
