Hi all, I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday! I've been waiting for nearly two months to see the spikes on this Catasetum that I purchased at Pittsburgh's Orchid Show (Pittsburgh, PA) and the spike has finally opened. The tag reads: "Mormodes/Catasetum hybrid. Maroon with yellow lip". Well, I ain't no expert, but this is def not Mormodes anything. I just want to thank Roberta for the reminder, "Orchids teach patience." because this thing nearly wore my patience thin, lol!

Youre right, there's no Mormodes in that.
Maybe the tag meant "Some kind of Mormodes or Catasetum hybrid" ?
They take forever to bloom, and then the flowers only last a few days. Definition of ephemeral...

looks like straight catasetum to me, although the flower description seems accurate. longevity varies for me, from 7-10 days for the pileatum/expansum group, to a couple weeks for some of the 'mini-catasetums', and the FDK/catamodes will easily go 3+ weeks.
