Hello JMoney:
Hey thanks for coming to the Amherst Orchid Society Show! Were you exhibiting the Catasetum ivaneae? or just commenting on it because it attracted so much attention? I think the wilting of the blossoms was due to the super-low humidity and high indoor temperature. And which club are you with? Connecticut? New Hampshire? or ? Be sure to say Hi next year.

I'm one of the set-designers for the show, and lug the sawhorses and props etc. with my husband.

Cheers to all the orchid show attendees out there.
Maryanne

Hi Maryanne, yes that was my ivaneae in the COS display. I know show conditions are always tough on blooms, but when I went to cut the spike off I saw a few flowers were still "ok", the ones with pollinia still attached! Catasetum flowers don't generally last very long but when the pollinia go, the blooms are quick to wilt. Still got plenty of pollinia in case I bloom any interesting pod parents this year...

Hope you guys can come down for our show in April; it's been a few years but we have our venue and date! (4/20-21)
