I think the bees got to them as they folded up. The Bees have been drinking water from the saucers around the plants. We have become friends. They arent stinging me but do fly bys.

I bring orchids into the house to enjoy them while they're in bloom. Catasetums signal that they're done (no pollinators in the house, of course), they start dropping their pollinia on the floor. When they do that, time to move back outside. They do make a stuck-on mess. Alas, the male flowers don't last more than a couple of weeks, then get to the messy stage even when nothing touches the triggers.

I guess you just got "pollinated"! I removed a spike earlier this year on a Susan Fuchs and got shot

That's a really nice one! Love the fangs. I have one lone plant from this group, and would love another that blooms more than once a year and preferably compact. Unfortunately Catasetinae are very hard to find on this side of the pond.

For twice-a-year blooming, Ctsm. expansum does that for me... but it's the opposite of compact, it's something of a beast.

Most denticulatum hybrids fit your criteria. Seems like the Germans are importing and selling the most of these in Europe.
