Oh well... I had a wish list building up over months so I took the Catasetinae list coming out as an excuse to cross out a few plants that had caught my attention... I ordered... 10!

I also used the $30 AOS Voucher you get every two years so I might be getting another surprise plant... or two
Fred said he'll add plants over $30 in value.

My goal for this list was to focus on mini-Catasetum, but it seems like those will be more prominent on the next release, maybe? So I only ordered one plus the black swan Cycnoches and one of the Catamodes... couldn't resist. But won't be looking to add too many Cycnoches or Mormodes to my collection, I still haven't fully figured them out... so my attempt to get that black swan might actually end up being that plant's swan song... For real, I have a Monnierara Millennium Magic (50% Mormodes, 25% Cycnoches), and it's my worst-performing plant!

My full order:

Catasetinae list:

– SVO10646 Cyc. NEW HYBRID (Cyc. Jean E. Monnier 'Dark Swan' x Cyc. Dark Swan 'Black Swan')
– SVO10525 Ctmds. NEW HYBRID (Ctmds. Darkonium 'Ebony Beauty' FCC/AOS x Ctsm. Orchidglade 'Davie Ranches' AM/AOS)
– SVO9948 Ctsm. NEW HYBRID (Ctsm. Melana Davison 'Bombshell' x Ctsm. ivaneae 'Purple Fantasy')

Others (Can you tell I like Cattleyas?):
– SVO9750 Paphiopedilum (Paph. haynaldianum 'Purple Dorsal' x Paph. haynaldianum 'Semi Vini')
– SVO i148 Sarco. Heidi 'Clarity' x Sarco. Kulnura Snowflake 'Freeby') – This is my entry to this year's OB project!
– Z4073 Zygopetalum (Z. Debbie De Mellow 'Honolulu Bay' x Zga. Adelaide Meadows 'Peckham')
– SVO9866 Zygopetalum (Zygo. Fandango 'Blooming Fool' x Zygo. Kiwi Korker '9 Flowers')
– SVO9666 Slc. Bella del Caribe (Slc. Angel's Fantasy 'Solar Flare' FCC/AOS x Sc. Beaufort 'Hartford's Elwood' 4n AM/AOS)
– SVO8181 C. NEW HYBRID (C. Green Emerald 'SVO Mutation' 4n x C. Caudebec 'Marty's Orchids' 4n)
– SVO9896 C. aurantiaca (C. aurantiaca 'SVO Spots' x C. aurantiaca 'SVO Spots 2') (One of my favorite species and very excited about finally getting one)

Those of you going on vacation, definitely email Fred! He's the nicest. If he can't rush the order to you, he will probably be able to hold on to shipping and care for your plants until you return, maybe for a reasonable boarding fee.

I can't think of any reason why not... Just start a thread, where people can list what they might have available to trade, either on the Catasetinae forum or the Classified forum. (People who want to participate will certainly find it) Any actual transactions can by done by PM - First anything that involves actual names, addresses and other personal information needs to be private, second quantities are limited. When a posted item is spoken for, it can be labeled "gone" in the public area so the poster isn't inundated. It might also make sense to have separate threads for US, EU, UK, etc. since any exchange of plant material is most readily managed within borders. (We don't make the rules...)

Do you guys have the option to create sub-forums? I wonder if having a dedicated forum for plant exchanges or plant sales would be cleaner than starting threads that could lead to other forums where people want to discuss culture getting inundated with sales.

Having the sub-forum could also allow to pin the rules to the top, which I think are important, such as privacy, limited quantities, or any other posting rules. I once was on an email thread in which someone inadvertently shared their social security number... with everyone! So that emphasis on privacy and not sharing full names could help people avoid being scammed.

Another thought, if selling is limited to one forum, it might make it easier to moderate at a later date. Once selling/exchanges are initiated, eventually, scammers will start to show up (I get scam comments on my photos on this forum all the time), so keeping it to just one sub-forum might help not get all the forums clogged with scammers trying to sell fake divisions.

I think the Admins (WaterWitchin and Camille) can do that, I don't think I can. They'll need to jump in on this one.

As Roberta earlier mentioned, there's a Classified Ads forum already here and trades are an option. If I made a subforum, it would duplicate what's already available and we try not to duplicate. Any reason not to use the Classified forum?

PS I checked out my Catasetum wannabes. At least I finally have new growth finally pushing up, after that tip from... Isurus I think?... on a different thread to give them a drink of water and wake them up. They're awake, but I'm far from worthy enough yet to get more (although I really wanna).

From looking at them, it appears my last year's bulbs are smaller than the year before. Maybe my goal should be to grow a larger bulb before getting more, rather than awaiting blooms.

I still have some that are fast asleep as well for some reason, so don't feel too bad!

I have a few that haven't awakened... I have started watering them a bit just to prod them. I have a big Ctsm. expansum that I kept outside all winter as an experiment (dry) and it did not wake up with the others, but still looked plump and healthy. I started watering it, and it finally woke up and likely will catch up in a month or so. For the weak ones, they'll either wake up or I'll have to get some more next year... This year I'm totally out of space, resisting the temptation of that list.
