9 Growths, One Bulb
Default 9 Growths, One Bulb

This "Cl. Rebecca Northern x Morm. Mimi" is pushing 9 new growths from a single bulb.

Taking bets as to how many are new growth vs spikes?? What do y'all think?

Did you test it for.steroids? It's a competitive world out there for these orchids! Some of them have been juicing up to win those FCCs!

I was suspicious of performance enhancing drugs but foolishly trusted the plant when it answered "nyet!".

Thanks for playing!

For the record I am hoping for 7 spikes and 2 grows, the two bottom-most growth not being spikes.

I could totally see it being 9 growths. One thing I should have mentioned is that it has already bloomed, a lot.

I'm contemplating dividing the plant and laying it down on its side.

I've seen this happen when the base of the dormant pseudobulb dies and dries up. I might suggest setting it sideways on sphagnum is a really good idea.

I don't have enough experience with this group of orchids to guess what they might be, but all I can say is WOW! That's a lot of growths for one bulb.
