OK so every now and again I'll see a ctsm with a really FAT psudobulb. I've been treating all my ctsms pretty much the same, and this one guy got a really nice circumference (which is what I generally aim for). Any idea what can cause this?

Genetics and culture obviously but I'm not sure how you'd test to see what's what. Maybe someone with more of a scientific background will chime in.

Depends upon what you mean. Clowesia tend to have shorter, fatter pseudobulbs than others in the alliance, which often carries over into hybrids. But culture is very important as well.

Woah, that is quite the bulb! Mine came out very skinny this year, I think I had it too dry and underfertilized (and maybe dark too).

I agree with the above: good culture and genetics makes fat bulbs!

hmmmm but I FEEL like I'm not doing anything differently with this guy compared to my other catasetums... And you can see that last year's bulb looks pretty much like the "typical" ctsm.

Damn it orchid, tell me your secrets!!
