What is this???? mini bulb? a mutant sister? a failed prior growth?
So i got a few new plants including this Ctsm.
i did my normal routine of keep it separated and apply incocour and then repot.
as i was cleaning the roots ( spotted a nice double new growth!!!) and then i found this thing... it looks like a tiny pbulb but it is not really connected to the others the way a pbulb would be and it made me quite curious

You have a new pbulb developing. I'm just a few yrs. into these but they have a distinct growing procedure that needs to be read about. AOS.org has culture sheets that you can see and print and here on OB are xcellent growers that I know will see your interest and chime in. Also,Fred Clarke of Sunset Valley Orchids - Superior Hybrids for Orchid Enthusiasts is a premier grower with info and always welcomes questionsnot to mention his vast selection of plants. Looks like an old or aborted bulb. I'd just ignore it.

DeaC there are two new growth on the larges pbulb. The issue in question is the one inch long other thing that is below the main pbulb
I was thinking it was an aborted growth but I was surprised it was so....alive?? I guess I assumed that the activated growth would have died when the plant stopped trying to grow it more

See what it becomes... I think new growth. These things can pop new growths in various odd spots. Repot gently...

I did Roberta. I made sure the top of this “thing” was above the media line to allow it to grow of that is what it decides to do

Looks like a new growth to me. The main stem might just be lower than you thought or this could be a new growth from a root, which this group is known to do.
