My new B. Echinolabium - Orchid Board

This is my new Bulbo. Echinolabium I got yesterday. It looks pretty nice. The new growth was really mushy and dead because of shipping but I guess that's OK. I was expecting it to come mounted but this is alright too. The main problem is that my grow space will become smelly once it blooms. Does anybody have any tips for me?

You could grow Jasmine sambac, citrus or Osmanthus fragrans to cover the scent.

Huh, I thought it would be stronger. I put it on my little porch thingy so I can't grow those. I'll find a way to deal with it myself.

The smell really isn't that strong away from the flower... if you put your nose next to the flower, of course it lives up to its reputation. However, an meter or two away I have not noticed it being particularly perceptible, at least not enough to be concerned about. The flower is so beautiful a little "odor" can be forgiven. And flowers don't last long, so it's not like you will be smelling it constantly. Mine is a sequential bloomer so I get to enjoy it for just a few days every few weeks for several months.

I have a large, five bloom spikes this past season, one that I have in the house. Like Roberta said it isn't too bad until you get up close.

But I have "experienced" other cultivars that can be smelled across the room. So you never know.

But it is worth waiting to burn that bridge when you get to it.

If you were the pollinator,the fragrance is the calling card. I'm just happy to get blooms no matter what. ENJOY!

Bulbos like to be very well-watered, like every day. They shouldn't dry out. They tend to have relatively short, fine roots.

I don't know what to say about watering even if it's very wet. The book on Bulbos was written by Bill Thoms. He grows in long-fiber sphagnum moss. He waters every plant every day, sometimes twice a day. But long-fiber sphagnum moss dries out faster than coconut fiber, which is what your plant appears to be in. I would say if the top of the coconut fiber is still wet, you won't need to water.
