Default Andy's orchids winter sale

Treated myself to two orchids from Andy's winter sale! Ended up spending under $30 with shipping and everything so I can't complain about that either.

Bulbophyllum Catenulatum (red/yellow) which I decided to mount.

Bulbophyllum (megaclinium) falcatum var. velutinm which I want to put in a basket... I'm just short one basket so I tied it to the side of my Pholidota Imbricata's basket.

Nicely done! I'd also go with a mount. Andy's is awesome.

First mounted Bulbo. any advice ? Seems like a small compact grower so I thought the mount would be best for creeping. Also my first order from Andy.... Definitely not my last

I do not know much about these ones but all of my Bulbophyllums are mounted. Some of mine prefer to dry between watering and some prefer the roots to remain damp. All seem to like air to the roots. Many of them really like to ramble, too. Mounting is a good way to grow them for that reason. Good luck with both of your new orchids.

I also took advantage of the sale and spent a little more money but, for what I spent, I got really great, healthy orchids that would have cost much more otherwise.

I bought the Dracula papillosa, Bulbophyllum blumei, Bulbophyllum lasiochlllum dark form, Bulbophyllum laxiflorum and Encyclia chimborazoensis. The Encyclia is going to be a gift for someone.

Bulbophyllum lasiochlllum, Bulbophyllum blumei, and Masdevalia auropurpurea. I do not want to mount any of these what kind of pots? Baskets for all three? 2"-3"?

I do not think it matters how you grow them as long as they get good air to the roots while staying reasonably moist. I have seen them in basket pots, mounted and in Vanda baskets. If they ramble out of the pot, you can always plant it in something else. Very good choices on the Bulbos, by the way.

Look up my posts quoting from a book by Bill Thoms, who gets lots of Bulbo awards.
