Thanks. Yes, I like black velvet for photographing orchids. I find it absorbs light really well, so gives a good true black background. Place the plant at least 2 ft away when possible. For this I had to set the plant on it so that the spikes and plant all had black background. But I usually try and get some distance between background and plant which helps to keep it dark black.
