I almost always mount them, either on a board or on a slab that I can then sit in a terracotta dish for display purposes

I was thinking of doing a large fir bark in a basket lined with coconut fiber plus a layer of sphagnum on the top. I'm not sure if the bark will dry out though.

What Bulbo(s) are you potting? Many of the more commonly-grown ones appreciate constant moisture at the roots, warm temps, and medium-bright light, but it's such a huge, diverse genus that culture can vary a lot. For cirrhopetaloid types I like baskets filled with sphagnum, plus styrofoam peanuts in the middle if the basket is large. Bark is probably fine but you may need to water often if it dries out fast.

I have Bulbo Jersey in a bark mix, and Elizabeth Ann in moss in an open basket. Both seem to do well, I have to make sure the one in bark does not dry out, while making sure the one in moss does just dry. Not sure what's best but those both seem to work for me.

I'm curious, too.

I just got a contortisepalum a couple of weeks ago, my first Bulbo. It came with sphag but not established (like it was added to maintain moisture at the show). I added some orchiata.

For the moisture loving Bulbos I have, I pot them with sphagnum moss in plastic pots

Hi Bob, question, I have pretty big Bulbophyllum Rufinum, and I would love to separate part and make new mounted one. I have no clue how to separate bulbophyllums, any tips? I do not want to screw this, I am familiar now only with keikis from Dendrobiums and Phals, but never separated Bulbo??? Many thanks for tip

I have lobbii growing in a basket of bark and volcanic rock. This sits in a shallow tray that holds a little bit of water. Keeps the mix nice and damp. The roots are going crazy so I guess it likes what I've done.
